The Freedom to Be Yourself
I know something about you.
I know that you are different.
Just as no two persons’ fingerprints, retinas or voices are identical, every single person is unique in terms of their knowledge, experiences, attitudes, likes and dislikes.
Right now as you read this, you are the end result of your experiences – what you have done and seen and heard, where you have been, who you’ve befriended and what you have learned.
Nobody else has lived that life – except you. And because of all of this, you see and interpret and react to what goes on around you differently from anyone else on this planet.
All of this isn’t hard to understand, yet most people are oblivious to these facts. They go through life assuming that all people want the same things – or, more accurately, they expect that the people around them should respond the same way to things. How this plays out in life can range from one person expecting another to enjoy a movie he or she enjoys, to the individual who’s upset if others don’t vote for their favorite political candidate.
All individuals are different. Every one of us has his or her own identity. And one of the most important keys to you and I living freely is awareness of ourselves and others as unique individuals.
You are you, and only you are you. Your world is your own, comprised of your own experience. And you cannot be someone other than who you are. Nor can you expect someone to be other than who (or what) they are!
The path to personal freedom begins with…
1) Knowing yourself. Self awareness is the first step towards experiencing joy and freedom in life.
2) Understanding that every individual person acts and reacts uniquely to life, and always in ways they believe* will bring them happiness.
3) You and I are surrounded by people who expect others to see the world the way they do, and who often react negatively when they do not.
This might all seem completely obvious to you. If so, that’s great. Because many of the other chains that constrain us from experiencing a sense of freedom in life are far more subtle.
The Freedom To Be Yourself – Emotional Chains
* You might think there are exceptions to this observation – people who are suicidal, masochistic or otherwise self-destructive. But people always act in certain way because they feel their actions will offer more mental well-being or less mental anguish than anything else they can think of.

Your philosophy is a great tool. I was really inspired in a bloomy day. Freedom is the ultimate nirvana. I wish we can all get there some day.
